US Used Half Of THAAD Stock In Israel Defence
The United States reportedly used more than 200 THAAD interceptors while defending Israel during the recent Iran war, raising concerns over the pressure placed on America’s advanced missile defence stockpile.
US THAAD Interceptors Used In Israel
The report said the U.S. fired over 200 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense interceptors against Iranian missiles aimed at Israel. This represented roughly half of the Pentagon’s total THAAD interceptor inventory.
The U.S. also launched more than 100 Standard Missile-3 and Standard Missile-6 interceptors from naval vessels positioned in the eastern Mediterranean. The figures indicate the scale of American military involvement in Israel’s air defence during the conflict.
Iran Missile Attacks On Israel
The use of such a large number of interceptors came during intense Iranian missile attacks on Israel. U.S. systems helped intercept incoming ballistic missiles, alongside Israeli systems such as Arrow and David’s Sling.
The report said Israel used fewer than 100 Arrow interceptors and around 90 David’s Sling interceptors. This suggests that American forces carried a major share of the high-end missile defence burden during the war.
US Missile Stockpile Concerns
The large expenditure of THAAD and naval interceptors has raised questions about U.S. readiness for other potential conflicts. American allies in Asia, including Japan and South Korea, also rely on U.S. missile defence capabilities.
If fighting resumes, U.S. officials reportedly expect Washington may need to use even more interceptors to defend Israel. The issue has therefore triggered debate over missile production capacity, stockpile management and the long-term cost of defending allies during major regional conflicts.
