Union Budget to Be Presented on February 1

The Union Government has finalised the schedule for the presentation of the Union Budget for the upcoming financial year. The Union Budget will be presented in Parliament on Sunday, February 1, while the Economic Survey will be tabled on January 29, setting the stage for detailed discussions on the state of the economy.

The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on January 28 with the President’s address to a joint sitting of both Houses. The session will be held in two phases, allowing lawmakers to debate and scrutinise government spending plans, taxation proposals, and policy priorities for the year ahead.

Economic Survey and Parliamentary Process

The Economic Survey, prepared by the Ministry of Finance, will provide an official assessment of India’s economic performance, challenges, and outlook. It traditionally serves as a reference document ahead of the Budget, outlining key trends in growth, inflation, employment, and public finances.

Following the Budget presentation, Parliament will take up discussions on budgetary allocations and demands for grants across ministries. The Finance Minister is expected to outline fiscal priorities amid domestic economic concerns and global uncertainties.

Significance of the Budget Date

Presenting the Budget on February 1 continues the practice adopted in recent years to allow timely implementation of budget proposals from the start of the financial year on April 1.
