UK Police Investigate Rape of Sikh Woman as Hate Crime
West Midlands Police are investigating the rape of a British-born Sikh woman in her 20s as a racially aggravated attack. The incident occurred on the morning of 9 September 2025 near Tame Road, Oldbury, in Sandwell.
Details of the Assault
The woman reported being attacked by two white men around 8:30 am. One was described as having a shaved head, heavy build, and wearing a dark sweatshirt with gloves. The other wore a grey top with a silver zip. During the assault, the attackers allegedly shouted racist abuse, telling her she “doesn’t belong in this country.”
Police Response
Police confirmed the case is being treated as a hate crime. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage, conducting forensic checks, and appealing for public assistance. Chief Superintendent Kim Madill of Sandwell Police said detectives are working urgently to identify the suspects.
Community Outrage
The attack has sparked strong condemnation from Sikh community groups, faith leaders, and local MPs. An emergency meeting at Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick called the crime both racist and misogynistic. Leaders urged swift justice and stronger national condemnation of hate-driven violence.
