Two MLAs Among Six Injured in Delhi ITO Crash

Two legislators were among six people injured after a car crossed a road divider and collided with an SUV near Delhi’s ITO intersection on Sunday night. Police said all those injured suffered minor injuries and were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where they were reported to be stable.

Two MLAs Injured in Delhi ITO Accident

The injured lawmakers were Delhi’s Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil. They were travelling in an Innova when the collision occurred near the Public Works Department office in central Delhi at around 9.30 pm.

Police received a PCR call about the accident and reached the site near the old Delhi Police Headquarters. Both legislators and the other occupants involved in the crash were taken to hospital for medical examination.

Swift Crosses Divider and Hits Innova

According to the preliminary police investigation, a Swift travelling from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO lost control, struck the central divider and crossed the railing into the opposite carriageway.

The vehicle then collided with the Innova travelling from ITO towards Laxmi Nagar. The Swift was being driven by 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey, who was accompanied by his wife and two minor children.

Police are examining the circumstances that caused the driver to lose control.

Vehicles Damaged in Central Delhi Crash

The impact caused substantial damage to the front portion of the Innova and left both vehicles stranded near the busy intersection.

Fire brigade personnel were called to assist in removing the damaged vehicles and clearing the roadway so that normal traffic movement could resume.

Authorities have not reported any life-threatening injuries from the accident, while further investigation into the crash is continuing.
