Trump Says He Deserves 2026 Nobel Peace Prize
US President Donald Trump has again said he believes his record warrants the Nobel Peace Prize, while expressing doubts that the Norwegian Nobel Committee will select him when the 2026 winner is announced.
Trump Says His Peace Record Merits Nobel Prize
Trump said his administration had played a role in addressing several international conflicts and argued that those diplomatic efforts justified recognition with the Nobel Peace Prize.
He has repeatedly highlighted US involvement in ceasefire efforts, conflict mediation and diplomatic agreements when making his case for the award.
Trump also suggested that his chances could be affected by factors unrelated to his peace record, though the Nobel Committee operates independently and does not disclose its deliberations.
Nobel Committee Keeps 2026 Selection Confidential
The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not confirm the identities of individual nominees during the selection process, meaning public claims about nominations cannot be treated as evidence that a candidate is under final consideration.
The committee evaluates nominees according to the peace-related criteria set out in Alfred Nobel’s will, including efforts towards international fraternity, reducing armed conflict and promoting peace.
A nomination itself does not constitute an endorsement by the committee.
Nobel Peace Prize Decision Due October 9
The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced in Oslo on October 9.
Trump has received public support from some political leaders for his candidacy, while his diplomatic record has also been the subject of debate over how much credit Washington should receive for individual ceasefires and negotiations.
The final decision rests solely with the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee.
