Trump Announces Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a three-day ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war, saying the truce will run from May 9 to May 11. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the arrangement, while Russia said the agreement followed talks involving Washington, Moscow and Kyiv.

Trump Announces Three-Day Ukraine Ceasefire

Trump said the ceasefire would suspend kinetic military activity between Russia and Ukraine for three days. He said the request was made directly by him and thanked both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for agreeing to the pause.

Russia And Ukraine Agree Prisoner Swap

The ceasefire arrangement also includes a major prisoner exchange. Trump said 1,000 prisoners from each side would be swapped during the truce period, and Zelenskyy also confirmed that the exchange would take place.

Victory Day Timing Shapes Ceasefire

The truce coincides with Russia’s Victory Day commemorations. Moscow had earlier announced a unilateral ceasefire around May 9, while Ukraine had also called for a pause in fighting. The latest announcement brings both sides into a U.S.-backed temporary ceasefire framework.

Peace Talks Continue Amid Deadlock

Trump said talks to end the war were continuing and claimed the sides were moving closer to a deal. However, major disagreements remain, especially over territory in eastern Ukraine, including parts of Donetsk that Russia has demanded Kyiv surrender.
