Train Collision in Tamil Nadu Derails Coaches, High-Level Inquiry Launched

A passenger train collided with a stationary goods train near Kavarapettai in Tamil Nadu on Friday, leading to the derailment of several coaches.

The collision has severely disrupted rail services in the region, with 18 trains cancelled and several others diverted as emergency restoration work is underway at the site.

High-Level Inquiry Initiated

Indian Railways has launched a high-level inquiry to investigate the cause of the incident. Additionally, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has begun its own investigation to determine whether the collision was due to a signal malfunction or a deliberate act. The passenger train, identified as the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Superfast Express, was reportedly traveling at 80 km/h when it collided with the goods train parked on the loop line.

Coaches Derail and Catch Fire

While no immediate casualties have been reported, preliminary information reveals that six coaches of the passenger train derailed, with three catching fire. The extent of injuries is still being assessed, and authorities have yet to release official figures regarding the number of passengers affected.

Restoration Efforts and Rail Disruptions

Tamil Nadu police confirmed that the collision occurred when the passenger train entered a loop line, resulting in the crash. Rescue teams, ambulances, and emergency personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and manage the situation.
