The Oval to Host 2027 WTC Final
The 2027 ICC World Test Championship final will be played at The Oval in London from June 9 to 13, confirming the venue’s return as host of the premier Test cricket contest.

The Oval will stage the World Test Championship final for the second time after previously hosting the 2023 title match. Australia defeated India by 209 runs in that contest to claim their first WTC mace.
The five-day 2027 final is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 9, and conclude on Sunday, June 13. The finalists will be determined by the standings at the end of the ongoing 2025–27 championship cycle.
The Oval Replaces Lord’s as Venue
The decision moves the WTC final back to The Oval after Lord’s hosted the 2025 edition. South Africa won that match by five wickets against Australia, completing a target of 282 to secure their maiden World Test Championship title.
England had already been confirmed as the host country for the 2027 final. It is also due to host the championship matches in 2029 and 2031, continuing its association with the tournament’s title contest.
The 2027 event will take place during a significant year marking 150 years since the first officially recognised Test match was played between Australia and England in 1877.
World Test Championship Qualification
Nine Test-playing nations are competing in the 2025–27 WTC cycle. Each team plays six series, comprising three at home and three away, although the number of matches in each series can vary.
Teams receive points for wins and draws, while penalties may be imposed for slow over rates. Rankings are based on the percentage of available points earned, allowing teams with different numbers of matches to be compared. The top two sides will qualify for the final at The Oval.
