Tarique Rahman India Visit Remains Uncertain
Uncertainty continues over Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India after Rashtrapati Bhavan withdrew a notice that appeared to indicate preparations for his ceremonial welcome. Neither New Delhi nor Dhaka has formally confirmed the dates of the visit.
Rashtrapati Bhavan Recalls Bangladesh PM Notice
Rashtrapati Bhavan had issued a notice stating that the Change of Guard ceremony scheduled for August 22 would not take place because a full rehearsal was being conducted for the ceremonial welcome of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The notice was subsequently withdrawn, adding to speculation over whether Rahman’s proposed India visit would proceed as expected.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs later said it had no update to share regarding the proposed visit.
Tarique Rahman India Visit Remains Unconfirmed
Reports have suggested that Rahman could visit India between August 23 and 25, but Bangladesh has said no final decision has been taken.
Discussions between New Delhi and Dhaka are understood to be continuing, with both sides yet to formally announce a schedule.
The absence of an official confirmation has kept uncertainty around what would be Rahman’s significant diplomatic engagement with India.
India-Bangladesh Relations Remain Sensitive
Relations between India and Bangladesh remain sensitive over several issues, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since leaving Bangladesh in 2024.
Dhaka has sought Hasina’s extradition, while India has said the request is being examined through applicable legal procedures.
Any visit by Rahman would be closely watched for signs of how both governments intend to stabilise bilateral relations and address outstanding political and security concerns.
