Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Meets PM Modi, Seeks Support on Key State Issues
New Delhi, India – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to discuss three pressing issues affecting the southern state. Describing the meeting as a “courtesy call,” Stalin highlighted the need for the central government’s intervention in expediting the release of pending funds for state welfare schemes, securing support for the Chennai Metro’s second phase, and protecting the interests of Tamil fishermen.
During the high-level talks, Stalin emphasized the importance of collaboration between the central and state governments, particularly in advancing Chennai’s urban infrastructure. He urged the Prime Minister to ensure that the second phase of the Chennai Metro project receives the same level of joint implementation support as its first phase, which had witnessed successful coordination between the Union and State governments.
“We have requested that the second phase of the Chennai Metro be implemented jointly by the Union and State governments, as was the case in the first phase,” Stalin said, according to a report by ANI.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also submitted a detailed memorandum to Prime Minister Modi, outlining the state’s critical needs and priorities. One of the key points raised was the protection of Tamil fishermen’s rights, an issue that continues to pose challenges for the coastal communities in the state. Stalin called for the Prime Minister’s personal intervention to resolve these longstanding concerns.
In addition to his meeting with the Prime Minister, Stalin held discussions with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, possibly addressing the upcoming opposition rally slated for September 28 in Kancheepuram. Stalin’s visit to Delhi, which began on Thursday evening, saw him receiving a warm welcome from DMK leaders, including senior MPs like TR Baalu, Tiruchi Siva, and K Kanimozhi.
The meeting signifies ongoing engagement between the state and central leadership, underscoring the need for sustained dialogue on developmental, economic, and social issues impacting Tamil Nadu.
