Europe and Ukraine Criticise US Move European officials have also pushed back against Washington’s decision, arguing that stronger sanctions, rather than looser restrictions, are needed. Ukraine has warned that increased Russian energy revenues could help fund Moscow’s military operations. The dispute has highlighted growing divisions within the Western alliance over how to balance sanctions on Russia with domestic concerns over fuel prices and energy security.
