Congress Raises Women’s Reservation Demand Congress has urged Sharad Pawar’s party to use the meeting to press for implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act without waiting for a delimitation exercise. The legislation passed in 2023 provides 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. Its implementation, however, is linked to a future census followed by delimitation. Opposition parties have argued that this linkage could significantly delay the introduction of reserved seats for women. Delimitation Debate Remains in Focus Delimitation has become an increasingly important political issue, particularly over concerns about how any future redistribution of parliamentary seats could affect representation among states.
