NavIC indigenous GPS India – Bharat Pulse News

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its next-generation navigation satellite NVS-03 aboard the GSLV-F18 rocket from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday, October 30, 2026. The mission strengthens India's indigenous Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system, restoring its minimum operational configuration of four satellites and reducing dependence on foreign satellite navigation networks. ISRO's GSLV-F18 Successfully Places NVS-03 in Orbit The 50-metre-tall Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 11.51 pm. Approximately 18 minutes later, the rocket successfully placed the 2,232-kg satellite into its designated Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. ISRO Chairman V Narayanan confirmed that the launch vehicle performed as expected. The mission marked the 20th flight of the GSLV programme. NVS-03 will undergo further orbital manoeuvres before reaching its final operational position. Indigenous Atomic Clock Strengthens India's NavIC NVS-03 carries an indigenously developed rubidium atomic clock alongside imported atomic clocks, strengthening India's ability to provide independent positioning and timing services. The satellite supports L1, L5 and S-band navigation signals, with coverage extending across India and approximately 1,500 kilometres beyond its borders. NavIC supports civilian applications including vehicle tracking, railway operations, maritime navigation and precision agriculture. The system also provides restricted navigation services for authorised strategic and defence applications. NavIC Restoration Boosts India's Strategic Independence Narayanan said the successful mission restored NavIC's minimum operational satellite configuration, an important development after earlier technical setbacks affected the constellation. He also highlighted NavIC's role in the government's One Nation, One Time initiative, which aims to strengthen the infrastructure supporting Indian Standard Time. Union Minister Jitendra Singh congratulated ISRO scientists, engineers and industrial partners on the achievement. The successful launch represents another step towards strengthening India's sovereign satellite navigation capabilities, although broader civilian adoption will depend on compatible devices and continued operational performance.
