Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s role as Seychelles’ trusted partner, highlighting shared maritime security, climate action and development cooperation during his address to the National Assembly of Seychelles. India Seychelles Trusted Partnership Addressing the Seychelles National Assembly, PM Modi said India and Seychelles share a partnership built on history, trust and people-to-people ties. He recalled that Indians first arrived in Seychelles in 1770, long before formal diplomatic relations were established. Modi said India would continue to stand with Seychelles as a friend and development partner. He described the Indian Ocean as a connecting force between the two nations and said the security and prosperity of both countries are closely linked. Indian Ocean Maritime Cooperation The Prime Minister said Seychelles has a special place in India’s vision for the Indian Ocean. He highlighted cooperation in defence, coast guard training, hydrography, maritime domain awareness and capacity building. Modi said the MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions — reflects India’s commitment to a safer and more secure Indian Ocean region. He also noted Seychelles’ vast maritime domain and described the island nation as a “Large Ocean Country.” Climate Action And Blue Economy PM Modi said India and Seychelles can expand cooperation in fisheries, marine science, coastal management, renewable energy and sustainable tourism. He praised Seychelles’ leadership in the Blue Economy and marine conservation. He also said small island nations are among the most affected by climate change and called for climate action based on fairness, responsibility and equity. India, he added, remains committed to working with Seychelles to ensure that the concerns of Small Island Developing States receive global attention.
