Sushmita Dev Resigns From Rajya Sabha

Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev has resigned from the Rajya Sabha, giving the party another political setback within a week. Her resignation has been accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan.

Sushmita Dev Resigns From Rajya Sabha

Sushmita Dev, who represented West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha, submitted her resignation from the Upper House on Wednesday. The resignation came amid growing political movement within the Trinamool Congress and wider speculation over her next step.

Dev had joined the TMC in 2021 after leaving the Congress, where she had earlier served as president of the All India Mahila Congress. She was later sent to the Rajya Sabha by the Mamata Banerjee-led party.

TMC Faces Another Political Setback

Dev’s resignation comes soon after senior TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray also stepped down from the party’s parliamentary group. The two developments have placed fresh attention on internal challenges within the party’s national parliamentary presence.

The resignation is significant because Dev was one of the TMC’s prominent leaders from Assam and had been active in the party’s outreach beyond West Bengal. Her exit may affect the party’s political plans in the Northeast, especially ahead of future electoral contests.

Sushmita Dev Political Future

After resigning, Dev said she did not want to be “in two boats” at the same time, indicating that she wanted clarity in her political path. She has not made any formal announcement about her next move.

Her meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has triggered speculation, but no official confirmation has been issued about any possible party switch. For now, her resignation marks a notable shift in TMC’s parliamentary lineup.
