Wangchuk said victory should be accompanied by humility and called on supporters to celebrate with dignity, restraint and responsibility.
His remarks followed widespread debate over videos showing senior CJP members dancing at a gathering after the organisation withdrew its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Critics questioned whether the celebrations were appropriate because the agitation had focused on examination irregularities, student suicides and demands for justice for affected families.
CJP Celebration Videos Draw Criticism
The videos reportedly showed CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, along with other members, dancing after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister.
Political leaders and social media users questioned the timing of the gathering. Some also raised concerns that protesters in several states continued to face FIRs, detention and possible legal proceedings while CJP leaders celebrated.
The organisation maintained that it remained committed to securing the withdrawal of protest-related cases and implementing examination reforms.
Saurav Das Defends Gen Z Expression
Das rejected criticism of the gathering, arguing that younger protesters should not be expected to follow traditional ideas of how political movements must behave.
He said members of Generation Z could protest, organise and celebrate in their own way. Das described the gathering as a modest event held to recognise volunteers who participated in the agitation.
The controversy has shifted attention from the protest’s demands towards the conduct expected from movement leaders after declaring victory.
