Saudi Arabia Intercepts Houthi Missiles, Drones

Saudi Arabia’s military coalition said it intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles and four drones launched by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement towards the kingdom on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The attacks targeted Saudi Arabia’s Eastern and Southern regions as hostilities between Riyadh and the Houthis intensified, raising fresh concerns about security across West Asia.

Saudi Arabia Intercepts Three Houthi Missiles and Four Drones

The Saudi-led coalition said three ballistic missiles were launched towards the kingdom’s Eastern Region, while four drones targeted its Southern Region.

Saudi Civil Defense issued emergency warnings for potential aerial threats in the Eastern Region and Kharj governorate.

Authorities subsequently announced that the immediate danger had passed in both areas.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage from the latest intercepted projectiles.

Saudi-Houthi Conflict Escalates Near Red Sea

The attacks follow intensified Saudi military operations against Houthi positions in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia increased its strikes after the Houthis captured strategic areas along Yemen’s Red Sea coastline in September, advancing towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The narrow waterway is an important international shipping route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

Further instability around the strait could threaten commercial shipping and energy exports from Gulf countries.

Yemen Fighting Undermines 2022 UN-Brokered Truce

The renewed hostilities have effectively ended the relative calm established under a United Nations-brokered truce in 2022.

The Saudi-led coalition supports Yemen’s internationally recognised government, while the Houthis control the capital, Sanaa, and substantial territory in northern Yemen.

The escalating conflict has also become linked to the wider US-Israeli war against Iran, increasing concerns about regional security and international trade.

With military operations continuing, prospects for restoring the earlier ceasefire remain uncertain.
