Russia Vows More Kyiv Strikes After Moscow Attack
Russia has vowed to intensify strikes on Kyiv after Ukraine launched a major drone assault on Moscow and its surrounding region during the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections. Russian authorities said at least three people were killed in the attacks, which also damaged residential buildings and an oil refinery.
Russia Threatens More Strikes on Kyiv
The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces would continue and intensify what it described as high-precision attacks on military targets in Kyiv in response to Ukrainian strikes inside Russia.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defences had intercepted around 1,600 drones since Saturday, including approximately 450 directed towards the capital. Russian officials described the barrage as one of the largest drone attacks on Moscow since the war began in 2022.
Ukraine has not provided a detailed account of all targets struck, although President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian long-range attacks had produced a “very significant impact” in the Moscow region.
Kyiv Region Hit by Russian Drone Attacks
Russia simultaneously continued large-scale drone attacks on Ukraine. Authorities in the Kyiv region said four civilians, including three children, were killed in overnight strikes.
A mother and her three-year-old twins were killed when a drone struck a private home, while another girl died in hospital following a separate attack.
Drone debris was also reported across several districts of Kyiv as attacks continued for more than a day.
Zelenskyy and Trump Prepare for New York Talks
The escalating strikes come as Zelenskyy prepares to meet US President Donald Trump in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.
Zelenskyy said the two leaders would discuss possible steps towards de-escalation, alongside energy security, food security and broader efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
