Russia, US And Ukraine ‘Close’ To Diplomatic Solution

A special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia, the United States and Ukraine are moving closer to a diplomatic settlement of the ongoing conflict, though no concrete terms have been disclosed. The envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation, made the statement during a visit to Washington.

Envoy’s Statement

Dmitriev remarked, “I believe Russia and the U.S. and Ukraine are actually quite close to a diplomatic solution.” He added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent acknowledgment that talks may centre on current battle lines, rather than a full Russian withdrawal, marked a shift in position.

Key Issues Still Unresolved

Despite the positive tone, the envoy did not reveal what the potential deal might include. Contentious issues such as territorial control, long-term security guarantees, and Ukraine’s NATO aspirations remain points of division.

Challenges Ahead

Analysts caution that while the remarks raise hopes, serious obstacles remain. Any lasting settlement would require difficult compromises and coordinated involvement from Western allies and regional stakeholders. The path to peace, though closer than before, remains complex and uncertain.
