Russia Strikes Ukraine’s Largest Mobile Provider
Russia has struck the headquarters of Kyivstar, Ukraine’s largest mobile network provider, as Moscow intensifies attacks on data centres and communications infrastructure across Kyiv and surrounding areas.
Russia Hits Kyivstar Headquarters in Kyiv
Kyivstar said its head office in the Ukrainian capital was hit during a Russian drone attack on Sunday. No casualties were reported at the company’s headquarters.
The strike came amid a broader wave of attacks targeting communications facilities in Ukraine, raising concerns over the resilience of civilian telecom networks during the continuing war.
Russia has increasingly targeted infrastructure supporting internet, mobile and digital communications as part of its wider aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities.
Vodafone Ukraine Data Centre Also Targeted
Russia’s defence ministry said its forces also struck a data centre belonging to Vodafone Ukraine, the country’s second-largest mobile network provider.
Ukraine also reported that another data centre in Kyiv was struck twice on Sunday morning, injuring two children and an adult.
The extent of damage to the targeted facilities and the impact on wider telecom services were not immediately clear.
Ukraine Reports Major Internet Disruptions
Ukraine’s digital authorities said Russian attacks on data centres belonging to internet providers over the past week had already disrupted services to around 100,000 households in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Ukrainian officials have warned that attacks on communications infrastructure can affect access to critical information, including missile and drone alerts used by civilians during air raids.
The latest strikes come as Russia continues using drones and missiles against Ukrainian infrastructure while Kyiv steps up efforts to protect key communications, energy and transport facilities.
