56 Dead as Heavy Rains Batter Uttar Pradesh
At least 56 people have been killed and 46 injured after intense rainfall and thunderstorms battered Uttar Pradesh, damaging more than 1,000 houses and creating flood-like conditions across several districts.

The deaths were recorded during the severe wet spell between September 25 and 27. Sitapur reported the highest number of fatalities with seven deaths, while Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur recorded five each.
Ayodhya and Gorakhpur also reported multiple deaths as heavy rain, thunderstorms and related incidents affected large parts of the state.
A total of 1,021 houses were damaged, while 107 animals were also reported dead. Crop losses are still being assessed across affected districts.
Flood Threat Rises Across Uttar Pradesh
The state received 45.1 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending September 27, sharply above the normal 1.8 mm for the period.
At least eight districts faced flood-like conditions as water levels rose in major rivers, including the Ghagra and Rapti. Low-lying communities were placed on alert, while residents from affected areas were shifted to relief centres and shelter homes.
At Elginbridge in Barabanki, the Ghagra crossed its danger level, while water levels in Ayodhya also remained above the warning mark.
Relief Operations Intensified in Flood-Hit Areas
Authorities have directed district officials to provide immediate assistance to affected families and expedite compensation for deaths, livestock losses and damaged homes.
Field teams have also been instructed to assess crop damage so that eligible farmers can receive relief.
Rescue and evacuation operations are continuing in waterlogged areas as authorities monitor river levels and weather conditions across the state.
