Rupee Gains 14 Paise to 94.61 Against Dollar
The Indian rupee strengthened by 14 paise to 94.61 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, supported by declining crude oil prices, a weaker American currency and renewed foreign investment inflows. Positive momentum in domestic equity markets also supported the rupee as investors assessed the outcome of the US midterm elections.
Rupee Touches 94.50 Before Trimming Gains
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 94.61 against the dollar and strengthened further to 94.50 before surrendering some gains.
The currency subsequently traded at 94.61, representing an appreciation of 14 paise from Tuesday’s closing level of 94.75.
The dollar index, which measures the American currency against six major currencies, declined 0.54% to 101.17.
US Treasury yields also softened amid market expectations surrounding the congressional election results.
Falling Crude Oil Prices Support Indian Currency
International crude oil prices declined during early trading, easing concerns about India’s energy import costs.
Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.49% to $103.09 per barrel despite continuing geopolitical uncertainty.
Lower crude prices generally support the rupee because India imports a substantial proportion of its petroleum requirements, creating significant demand for foreign currency.
The improvement came alongside stronger foreign institutional investment in Indian equities.
Sensex and Nifty Rise as Foreign Investors Return
Domestic stock markets opened higher, extending gains from the previous trading session.
The BSE Sensex advanced 435.10 points, or 0.57%, to 77,352.95, while the NSE Nifty gained 115.90 points, or 0.49%, to 23,925.10.
Both benchmark indices had risen more than 1.5% on Tuesday.
Foreign institutional investors remained net buyers for the third consecutive session, purchasing equities worth Rs 6,836.81 crore on November 3.
Currency traders continued monitoring global energy prices, foreign fund flows and developments following the US midterm elections.
