Rohit Sharma’s ODI Future in Doubt

Rohit Sharma could be left out of India’s ODI plans after the third and final match against England at Lord’s on July 19. However, the BCCI has not made any official announcement regarding the former captain’s future.

Rohit Sharma ODI Future Uncertain

Reports suggest that the national selectors have informed Rohit that they intend to move forward with younger options after the England series.

The 39-year-old reportedly wanted to continue playing ODI cricket after improving his fitness, but the final decision on retirement remains with him. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is also understood to have been informed about the selectors’ plans.

Rohit scored 11 in the opening ODI in Birmingham before making 26 from 47 deliveries during India’s four-wicket defeat in Cardiff. He has accumulated 241 runs across his last eight ODI innings at an average of 30.1.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Set for Longer Run

The selectors are reportedly keen to provide Yashasvi Jaiswal with an extended opportunity at the top of the order.

With around 20 ODI matches expected before the 2027 World Cup, the team management wants the younger opener to gain sufficient experience. Jaiswal’s recent performances have strengthened his case for a regular position alongside captain Shubman Gill.

India are scheduled to host the West Indies in September, when the selectors could begin implementing their plans for the next World Cup cycle.

BCCI Yet to Confirm Decision

No official statement has been issued confirming that the Lord’s ODI will be Rohit’s final international appearance in the format.

Rohit remains one of India’s most successful ODI batters and is currently ranked among the leading players in the format. The third ODI could nevertheless become a significant moment in his international career as India and England contest the series decider.
