Rishabh Pant Steps Down As LSG Captain

Rishabh Pant has stepped down as captain of Lucknow Super Giants with immediate effect after a poor IPL 2026 campaign in which the franchise finished at the bottom of the table.

Rishabh Pant Quits LSG Captaincy

Lucknow Super Giants confirmed that Pant requested to be relieved of the captaincy and the management accepted his decision. The wicketkeeper-batter had led the team for two seasons after joining the franchise in a record-breaking ₹27 crore move before IPL 2025.

Pant’s captaincy tenure ended with 10 wins from 28 matches. LSG failed to qualify for the playoffs in both seasons under him and were the first team to be eliminated from the 2026 tournament.

Lucknow Super Giants Begin Rebuild

The franchise said the decision is part of a wider review after a disappointing season. LSG won only four of their 14 matches in IPL 2026 and finished last for the first time in their history.

Director of cricket Tom Moody said Pant had given his best to the role but the team now needed to reassess its structure and rebuild for future seasons.

Pant Faces Questions Over Form

Pant’s own batting form also came under scrutiny during the season. Expectations were high after his big-money signing, but his performances did not match the scale of the investment or leadership responsibility.

LSG will now look for a new captain ahead of IPL 2027 as the franchise tries to recover from one of its weakest seasons.
