Reliance Industries Profit Falls 22% but Beats Market Estimates in June Quarter
Reliance Industries reported a 22.4% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 2026, although the company’s earnings remained ahead of market expectations. Strong performances from its oil-to-chemicals, telecommunications and retail businesses supported the quarterly result.
The conglomerate posted a consolidated net profit of ₹20,946 crore, compared with ₹26,994 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Market estimates had placed profit at approximately ₹18,550 crore.
Previous Year’s Exceptional Gain Affects Comparison
The sharp fall in reported profit was largely caused by a high base in the previous year, when Reliance recorded an exceptional gain from the sale of its stake in Asian Paints.
Excluding the impact of that one-time gain, the company’s underlying operational performance remained resilient. Consolidated revenue increased by around 25% year-on-year to approximately ₹3.11 lakh crore.
Oil and Telecom Businesses Drive Growth
Reliance’s oil-to-chemicals business benefited from stronger middle-distillate margins and improved petrochemical spreads. The segment’s core earnings rose by more than 17% despite continued volatility in global energy and raw-material markets.
Jio Platforms recorded a 15.1% increase in core earnings. Its subscriber base reached approximately 533 million, while average revenue per user rose to ₹215.60.
Jio’s quarterly net profit increased 9% year-on-year to ₹7,764 crore, strengthening the company’s position ahead of its anticipated stock-market listing.
Retail Expansion Pressures Margins
Reliance Retail continued to expand its digital-commerce and delivery capabilities. However, investments in infrastructure and new distribution channels placed some pressure on margins.
The group is also preparing to begin operations at several new-energy projects during the current financial year as it expands beyond its traditional refining and petrochemical businesses.
