Rajnath Singh Criticizes Pakistan Over IMF Bailout, Offers Larger Aid If Ties Improved
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking at an election rally in the Gurez border area of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, stated that India could have provided Pakistan with a bailout package larger than the one recently approved by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, this assistance could have been offered only if Pakistan had maintained amicable relations with New Delhi.
“The amount that Pakistan is requesting from the IMF is less than what our government has spent in Jammu and Kashmir,” Singh emphasized during his address, highlighting India’s focus on the development and welfare of the region. The IMF recently approved a $7 billion package for Pakistan under a 37-month loan programme, with $1 billion set for immediate release.
India’s Developmental Approach vs. Pakistan’s Misuse of Aid
Singh accused Pakistan of misusing international financial aid to promote terrorism. “The money our government allocates in Jammu and Kashmir is for the region’s development and the betterment of people’s lives, while Pakistan diverts aid into fueling terrorism,” Singh asserted.
He urged Pakistan to reconsider its hostile stance and adopt a friendly approach. Referring to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s famous words, he added, “You can change your friends, but not your neighbors.”
Stern Warning Against Terrorism
Sending a clear message to Islamabad, Singh warned, “If a major terrorist attack occurs in India, we will not hesitate to strike within Pakistan.” His comments underscored India’s firm stance on combating terrorism and maintaining national security.
