Rain Washes Out Day One of India vs New Zealand Test in Bengaluru
Heavy rain forced the abandonment of the first day of the opening Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Wednesday, without a ball being bowled.
Persistent downpours throughout the day prevented any play at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading match officials to call off the day’s action at 2:34 PM.
India vs New Zealand Test Delayed by Rain
The rain had initially relented for about 30 minutes, raising hopes of some play. Ground staff worked to clear the outfield, removing the first layer of covers around 1:50 PM. However, large damp areas on either side of the pitch remained, causing concern for player safety. Match officials inspected the pitch at 2:00 PM but ultimately decided to call off play as the weather continued to deteriorate.
No Toss Due to Persistent Rain
The downpour meant that even the toss could not take place, leaving both teams waiting for a chance to begin their campaigns. Hessian covers were brought out in a last attempt to dry the field, but the rain returned with greater intensity, making further efforts futile. As a result, the opening day of the much-anticipated Test match saw no action.
With rain forecasted for the coming days, the prospects of a full match remain uncertain, adding pressure on both teams to make the most of any playtime in the remaining days. Fans and players will now hope for improved conditions in Bengaluru as the series progresses.
