Rahul Gandhi Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Calls for National Unity

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visited Srinagar on Friday to meet with the injured victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. During his visit, Gandhi condemned the attack, stating that it was carried out with the intent to “divide society.” He emphasized the need for the nation to stand united in the face of such acts of terrorism. > “Sad to see people attacking my brothers, sisters from Kashmir,” Gandhi remarked, highlighting the communal nature of the assault.

Calls for Government Accountability

Gandhi also criticized the central government’s handling of the situation, urging it to take responsibility for the security lapses that allowed the attack to occur. He pointed out that despite claims of normalcy in the region, such incidents indicate otherwise. The Congress party has signaled its willingness to support the government in efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that this is not a time for partisan politics.

National and International Reactions

The Pahalgam attack has drawn widespread condemnation from various quarters. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed grief over the incident, labeling terrorism as a “global menace.” Additionally, the United States has reaffirmed its support for India, condemning the attack and calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. In response to the attack, India has taken significant measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing a key land border with Pakistan, accusing it of supporting cross-border terrorism. Pakistan has denied these allegations. The Pahalgam terror attack has not only resulted in tragic loss of life but has also reignited debates over security policies and the need for national unity in combating terrorism.
