Qatar Reports Progress in US-Iran Peace Talks

Qatar has confirmed that diplomatic mediation between the United States and Iran remains underway, with efforts focused on preventing another escalation of military tensions in the Middle East. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said on Saturday, November 7, that progress had been made towards a possible agreement.

Qatar Reports Progress in US-Iran Peace Negotiations

Al-Thani said Washington remained interested in reaching a diplomatic settlement even after the US midterm elections held on November 3.

The Qatari Prime Minister expressed confidence that negotiations could produce an agreement, although significant differences between the two countries remain unresolved.

He stressed that negotiators should prioritise a workable settlement rather than delay progress while pursuing an ideal agreement.

Qatar has been serving as an intermediary between Washington and Tehran, seeking to reduce the possibility of renewed military confrontation.

Iran Reports Possible Missile Strikes on Qeshm Island

The diplomatic developments coincided with reports of fresh military activity near Iran.

Iranian media reported preliminary indications that two missiles had struck Qeshm Island on Saturday. However, authorities had not confirmed the extent of any damage or provided details about the reported incident.

The United States had not announced any new military strikes against targets inside Iran.

Regional governments remain concerned that President Donald Trump could resume military operations following the American midterm elections.

Iran has repeatedly warned that further attacks could trigger retaliatory strikes against American and Israeli targets in neighbouring countries.

Iran Proposes Seven-Day Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran has been promoting a seven-day diplomatic proposal since September, although Trump has rejected the initiative.

Tehran’s proposal calls for Washington to lift its blockade of Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian assets and approve an Iranian-backed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran would subsequently reopen the strategically important waterway under the proposed arrangement.
