Putin Assures India of Continued Fertiliser Supplies
Russian President Vladimir Putin has assured India that Russia will continue supplying fertilisers, highlighting agricultural cooperation as a key part of expanding bilateral economic ties. The assurance came during a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Moscow ahead of Putin’s expected visit to India.
Putin Assures India on Fertiliser Supplies
Putin said Russia was expanding fertiliser exports and was prepared to maintain supplies to India to support Indian farmers and the country’s agricultural sector.
The commitment comes at a time when India remains heavily dependent on imported fertilisers and raw materials. Stable Russian supplies are therefore important for containing input costs and ensuring availability during key agricultural seasons.
Putin said India-Russia cooperation extends beyond energy and fertilisers to nuclear energy, high technology and several other sectors.
Jaishankar Meets Putin Ahead of India Visit
Jaishankar met Putin during his Moscow visit and delivered a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The External Affairs Minister also briefed Putin on discussions held under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.
Talks covered trade, investment, energy, fertilisers, nuclear cooperation, connectivity, technology, space and mobility.
India-Russia Trade Ties Continue to Expand
Putin said bilateral trade was again increasing after a slight decline last year, while praising Modi’s attention to India-Russia relations.
India and Russia are seeking to expand bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030 while addressing practical obstacles faced by businesses and diversifying economic cooperation.
Putin and Modi are expected to meet on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit before another potential meeting during Putin’s planned India visit for the BRICS summit.
