Punjab Sets Up Control Room Amid India-Pakistan Armed Confrontation

With armed conflict intensifying along the India-Pakistan border following India’s Operation Sindoor, the Punjab administration has activated a dedicated control room to manage emergency responses and monitor real-time developments across sensitive regions.

The control room, established by the state’s revenue disaster management wing, will operate round the clock. Citizens can contact the emergency centre via landline numbers 0172-2741803 and 0172-2749901 in case of critical situations, especially in border districts exposed to cross-border shelling and aerial threats.

Heightened Conflict After Missile Strikes

Tensions escalated dramatically after India launched missile strikes early Wednesday targeting nine key terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

Targets included Jaish-e-Mohammed’s base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s facility in Muridke. According to officials, the operation was planned with precision to strike deep terror infrastructure while avoiding civilian areas. Reports suggest the strikes inflicted heavy damage to terror leadership and logistics facilities.

Border Regions Under Fire

Following India’s action, Pakistan initiated heavy retaliatory shelling along the Line of Control and the International Border. Areas in Jammu have reportedly been subjected to near-total blackout conditions, with sirens and curfews activated to safeguard civilian populations.

Similar measures have been implemented in parts of Punjab, where blackouts were enforced in districts like Gurdaspur and Amritsar. The Punjab Police and district administrations remain on high alert, and evacuation drills have been conducted in villages situated near the international boundary.

Civilian Readiness and Safety Prioritized

The newly activated control room is part of the state’s broader civil defence response strategy. With the situation evolving rapidly and fears of further escalation looming, authorities are urging residents in border areas to stay indoors during siren alerts, switch off lights during blackouts, and report any suspicious objects or movement to local law enforcement.

The Punjab government has also directed all hospitals, emergency services, and administrative units in border districts to remain on standby.
