Punjab Raises LPG Booking Gap To 35 Days
Punjab has further tightened LPG refill booking rules amid supply pressure linked to the West Asia war, with Indian Oil Corporation increasing the mandatory waiting period for several consumer categories. The change affects both regular domestic users and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, and marks the second revision since the conflict began disrupting energy supply chains.
LPG Booking Gap Raised In Punjab
Households in Punjab with double-bottle connections will now have to wait 35 days before booking a refill of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder, up from 25 days earlier. For Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, the waiting period for the same cylinder size has been increased even further to 45 days, reflecting the pressure on LPG distribution.
New Refill Rules For Different Cylinder Types
The revised interlocking period now varies by cylinder size and category of user. For PMUY consumers, the booking gap for a 5-kg cylinder has been fixed at 16 days. For non-PMUY single-bottle domestic users, the wait is now 25 days for a 14.2-kg cylinder, nine days for a 5-kg cylinder, and 18 days for a 10-kg cylinder. For double-bottle connections, the gap has been set at 12 days for 5-kg cylinders and 25 days for 10-kg cylinders.
West Asia War Triggers LPG Supply Pressure
Officials said the revised timelines are aimed at regulating consumption and streamlining LPG distribution during a period of supply stress. The latest increase comes after an earlier revision this month, when the waiting period for domestic LPG refill bookings in urban areas had already been raised from 21 days to 25 days.
Punjab Consumers Face Longer LPG Wait
The fresh changes mean many households in Punjab will now face longer delays in securing refill bookings, especially those dependent on subsidised cylinders under welfare schemes. The move underlines how the wider West Asia conflict is beginning to affect everyday fuel access and household energy planning in India.
