PSL Opener Hit By Ball Colour Controversy
Pakistan Super League 2026 began with an unusual controversy after the match ball changed colour during the opening game between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium. What started as a routine season opener quickly drew attention when the white ball appeared to turn pink and then red during play, prompting questions over kit quality and match conditions.
PSL Ball Colour Controversy Shocks Opener
The incident unfolded during the first innings when players repeatedly rubbed the white ball on their jerseys to maintain shine, which is a common practice in limited-overs cricket. This time, however, the maroon dye from Hyderabad Kingsmen’s kit appeared to transfer onto the ball, making the colour change visible on television and triggering immediate discussion among fans and commentators.
Marnus Labuschagne Raises Concerns To Umpires
Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne was seen raising the matter with the umpires early in the match. After the game, he said he had never seen anything like it before in professional cricket. He noted that minor marks from bats or pads can happen, but dye from clothing affecting the ball was highly unusual. The incident has now brought attention to kit standards and quality control in the tournament.
Lahore Qalandars Beat Hyderabad Kingsmen By 69 Runs
Despite the controversy, Lahore Qalandars produced a strong performance. After being put in to bat, Lahore scored 199 for 4 in 20 overs, with Fakhar Zaman making 53 and Haseebullah Khan adding an unbeaten 40. In reply, Hyderabad Kingsmen were bowled out for 130, giving Lahore a 69-run victory. Ubaid Shah, Sikandar Raza and Haris Rauf took two wickets each as Lahore secured a comfortable opening win.
