President Murmu Condoles Tamil Nadu Factory Deaths

President Droupadi Murmu has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a factory incident in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district, where an ammonia gas leak at a private fish meal export unit left two women dead and dozens affected.

Tamil Nadu Factory Incident In Tiruvallur

The incident occurred on Sunday at a production unit in Kannigaipair village near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district. Officials said ammonia gas leaked inside the private fish meal export factory, affecting workers present at the site.

Two women died in the incident, while 62 others were affected by exposure to the gas. Several workers were admitted to hospitals for treatment, with authorities monitoring the condition of those requiring medical care.

Early reports had suggested a higher death toll, but officials later clarified that two deaths had been confirmed.

President Murmu said she was deeply distressed to learn about the loss of lives in the tragic factory incident. She extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

Her statement came as national and state leaders expressed concern over the industrial accident and the condition of affected workers.

Ammonia Gas Leak Probe Ordered

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered an inquiry into the ammonia gas leak. A three-member committee has been formed to examine the incident and submit reports within a fixed timeline.

The committee includes officials from industrial safety, pollution control and public health departments. The state government has also directed inspections of hazardous industrial units to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Police have taken the factory owner and manager into custody for questioning as part of the investigation.
