President Murmu Appoints Governors for Six States

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Governors for six states, shifting Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to Tamil Nadu and Om Prakash Mathur to Keralam while naming four new Governors in a wider reshuffle.

Arlekar Appointed Tamil Nadu Governor

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who was serving as Governor of Keralam and also holding additional charge of Tamil Nadu, has now been appointed the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu.

Arlekar had been handling Tamil Nadu as an additional responsibility since March 2026. His new appointment formalises his position in the state.

He has previously served as Governor of Bihar and Himachal Pradesh and was earlier Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

Om Prakash Mathur Moves to Keralam

Om Prakash Mathur, who was serving as Governor of Sikkim, has been transferred to Keralam.

Mathur is a former Rajya Sabha member and has held several senior organisational positions in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

His transfer creates a vacancy in Sikkim, which will now be filled by Dushyant Gautam.

Four New Governors Appointed

Braj Mohan Ram has been appointed Governor of Odisha, while Dr. Sudha Yadav will take charge as Governor of Karnataka.

Dr. Dhal Singh Bisen has been appointed Governor of Uttarakhand, and Dushyant Gautam will become Governor of Sikkim.

The appointments were announced on October 12 and will take effect from the dates on which the respective Governors assume charge.
