Police File FIRs Over CJP Protest Violence
Delhi Police have registered multiple FIRs over violence and vandalism during the CJP-led march towards Parliament, with investigators examining whether the clashes were coordinated. Six cases were initially filed, while subsequent police updates indicated that the number had risen to 10 as additional incidents came under investigation.
CJP Protest FIRs Registered
The cases relate to alleged rioting, assault on public servants, obstruction of police duties, damage to public property and attempts to breach security barricades during the July 20 “Sansad Chalo” march.
FIRs were registered at Parliament Street, Connaught Place and other police stations covering areas where clashes occurred. Police said further cases could be added as investigators review individual incidents.
Approximately 70 people detained during the protest were later released on bail. More arrests remain possible after the identification of people allegedly involved in violence.
Police Investigate Conspiracy Claims
Investigators are analysing CCTV recordings, mobile phone footage, drone visuals and police body-camera recordings. More than 250 videos are reportedly being reviewed to identify individuals accused of stone-pelting, vandalism and attacking security personnel.
Police are also examining whether WhatsApp or Telegram groups were used to coordinate participants and whether some individuals arrived at Jantar Mantar with a pre-planned intention to cause violence.
The suggestion of a larger conspiracy remains an investigative theory and has not been established by a court.
Police and Protesters Report Injuries
Delhi Police said 118 personnel, including senior officers and women constables, were injured. Around 60 protesters were also reported injured during the confrontation.
Authorities alleged that 15 to 20 government vehicles and other public property were damaged. Protest organisers and opposition parties have separately accused police of using excessive force against demonstrators.
The CJP agitation began over alleged examination irregularities and demands for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Protest leaders have said the movement will continue despite the criminal cases.
