PM Modi Urges Forgiveness After Jantar Mantar Abuse
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for forgiveness and guidance after young protesters allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother during the recent NEET protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Modi Reacts to Jantar Mantar Abuse
In a late-night video message, Modi said the country had witnessed protesters using language that did not belong in a civilised society. He described the incident as an “ugly spectacle” but argued that anger and retaliation would not provide a solution.
The Prime Minister said he understood the outrage caused by the videos, particularly the “cultural shock” felt over young women using such language. However, he urged people not to disown or condemn an entire generation over the actions of some individuals.
Modi described those involved as “misguided children” who should be shown the correct path. He said young people could make mistakes and should be encouraged to learn from them and move forward.
FIR Filed Over Remarks Against PM Modi
The controversy followed the circulation of videos from the July 23 protest at Jantar Mantar. A woman seen allegedly making objectionable remarks against Modi and his mother was subsequently booked following a complaint.
A Zero FIR was registered in Noida under provisions relating to intentional insult, public mischief and defamation. Since the alleged incident occurred in Delhi, the case was transferred to Parliament Street Police Station for further investigation.
PM Modi Calls for Forgiveness
Modi said dragging young protesters through court proceedings would not necessarily resolve the underlying problem. He instead appealed to society to embrace them and provide proper guidance.
The Prime Minister added that his government remained committed to protecting students’ futures and strengthening safeguards against examination paper leaks. His remarks came amid continuing political debate over the handling of the NEET protests and the police cases arising from them.
