PM Modi Targets Fear-Mongering During Global Crises
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India’s experience of handling the COVID-19 pandemic, global wars and fears of essential-supply shortages demonstrated the country’s growing resilience. Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, Modi criticised those who, he said, repeatedly spread alarming predictions during periods of crisis.
Modi Targets Fear Over National Crises
Modi said some commentators appeared to take pleasure in frightening citizens with predictions of severe disruption.
He recalled the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic and said fresh challenges emerged as the world subsequently faced the Russia-Ukraine conflict and wars in West Asia.
According to Modi, India’s ability to withstand these shocks showed that long-term planning and preparedness had strengthened the country’s capacity to deal with major disruptions.
India Prepared for Essential Supply Shocks
The Prime Minister pointed to the availability of critical commodities including gas, petrol and urea despite continuing geopolitical instability.
He said measures implemented over the past 10 to 12 years had helped India build stronger systems capable of responding to unexpected crises.
Modi described the government’s approach during the pandemic as based on “Nagrik Devo Bhava”, placing citizens at the centre of policy decisions.
Modi Pushes Self-Reliance for Viksit Bharat
Modi said India was increasingly relying on its own capabilities to protect itself from global economic and supply-chain shocks.
He linked greater self-reliance with his broader Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and unveiled the “Sapta Dhara” framework to accelerate development.
The Prime Minister said India must continue strengthening domestic capacity so that international crises do not derail economic growth or create shortages of essential goods.
