PM Modi Pushes Stronger India-Australia Trade Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for faster expansion of India-Australia economic ties, highlighting opportunities in critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure, technology and advanced manufacturing. He made the remarks while addressing business leaders during his official visit to Australia.
Modi Addresses India-Australia CEO Forum
Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese participated in the India-Australia CEO Forum and an economic roadmap business reception in Melbourne.
The Prime Minister described the gathering as a reflection of growing confidence between the two countries. He urged companies from both nations to convert the expanding political and strategic partnership into stronger commercial cooperation.
Business leaders discussed opportunities in sectors including renewable energy, digital technology, education, agriculture, defence manufacturing, infrastructure and financial services.
India-Australia Trade Relations Expand
India and Australia are working to deepen trade relations following the implementation of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement. Both governments are also seeking progress towards a broader Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.
Modi encouraged Australian businesses to invest in India’s infrastructure, manufacturing and clean-energy sectors. He highlighted India’s economic growth, expanding consumer market and policy initiatives aimed at attracting long-term foreign investment.
Australian companies are increasingly examining opportunities in India, while Indian businesses are expanding their presence across Australia.
Critical Minerals and Energy Cooperation
Critical minerals remain a major area of cooperation, with Australia holding substantial reserves needed for electric vehicles, renewable-energy systems and advanced technologies.
The two countries are also strengthening cooperation in uranium, liquefied natural gas, green hydrogen and low-carbon industries. Australia has agreed to move forward with uranium exports to India for peaceful nuclear-energy purposes under established safeguards.
The visit also produced commitments to deepen defence, maritime-security and Indo-Pacific cooperation. Both leaders said stronger economic and strategic ties would contribute to regional stability and supply-chain resilience.
