PM Modi Pushes AI, Data and Governance Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the third high-level meeting with Secretaries to the Government of India, focusing on long-term priorities across infrastructure, connectivity, national security, external affairs and governance. Modi called for stronger coordination across ministries, wider use of technology and a future-oriented approach to policymaking.

Modi Calls Government Data a National Asset

Modi described government data as a national asset and an important resource for future policymaking, stressing that its value is often limited by fragmented systems across departments.

He called for greater interoperability between government databases and more effective use of information across ministries.

The Prime Minister also criticised departmental silos and urged senior officials to take greater ownership of decisions and outcomes.

AI and Youth to Shape Government Policy

Modi called for wider adoption of artificial intelligence across government while retaining human judgement in important decision-making processes.

He also advocated stronger engagement between government departments, universities and young people to bring new perspectives into policymaking.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for greater research and innovation, particularly in defence, and called for India’s defence industry to become more competitive globally.

Modi Pushes Port-Led Development Strategy

The meeting also focused on strengthening India’s maritime economy and improving connections between manufacturing centres, export-oriented units and ports.

Modi called for India to move beyond port development towards a broader port-led development strategy.

He also asked officials to regularly assess whether major infrastructure projects were delivering their intended economic and governance outcomes.
