PM Modi Hails Unanimous BRICS Delhi Declaration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration at the 2026 BRICS Summit reflects growing international confidence in India. His remarks came days after all 11 BRICS members agreed on the joint declaration despite differences over several major geopolitical issues.
Modi Highlights BRICS New Delhi Declaration
Speaking at the inauguration of SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi, Modi cited the BRICS agreement while discussing what he described as increasing global trust in India.
The New Delhi Declaration was adopted unanimously during the September 12-13 BRICS Summit hosted by India. Negotiations continued into the early hours as members worked to bridge differences, particularly over conflicts and tensions in West Asia.
The declaration ultimately secured the support of all 11 BRICS members.
BRICS Declaration Covers Terrorism and Trade
The declaration addresses a range of international issues, including terrorism, global conflicts, nuclear risks, energy security and international trade.
BRICS members expressed concern over unilateral tariffs and other measures considered inconsistent with World Trade Organization rules while reiterating support for resolving international disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
The declaration also condemned terrorism and called for stronger international cooperation against terrorist organisations.
Modi Links BRICS Consensus to India’s Growth
Modi also highlighted India’s economic performance, noting quarterly GDP growth of 7.8% despite challenging global conditions.
He referred to developments in infrastructure, fintech and semiconductor manufacturing while arguing that economic expansion and international confidence in India were progressing together.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the completion of approximately 3,000 kilometres of the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the continuing expansion of India’s technology ecosystem.
SEMICON India 2026 is being held in Delhi from September 17 to 19 under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”.
