PM Modi Encourages Record Voter Turnout in Haryana Assembly Elections

As Haryana heads to the polls today, October 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on eligible voters to turn out in record numbers and exercise their democratic right.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of high voter participation and extended his special wishes to first-time voters in the state.

Voting Underway for 90 Assembly Seats

Polling is currently underway across 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana amid tight security arrangements following an intense campaign by major political parties. The state’s political landscape is witnessing a keen contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and alliances like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP), and Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP).

“Voting is taking place today for the Haryana Assembly elections. I appeal to all voters to be a part of this holy festival of democracy and set a new record of voting,” PM Modi wrote in his post, urging voters to make the most of this opportunity. He added, “My special best wishes to all the young friends of the state who are going to vote for the first time.”

Key Candidates and Election Scenario

The Haryana Assembly elections will determine the fate of several key political figures, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vinesh Phogat, as well as JJP’s Dushyant Chautala. A total of 1,030 candidates are in the fray, representing a diverse political landscape.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 seats, followed by Congress with 31 seats, and JJP winning 10 seats. The voting process will continue until 6 p.m. today, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled the counting of votes for October 8.

Tight Security and High Stakes

Security has been beefed up across the state to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections. Authorities have deployed personnel at polling stations to maintain law and order, while also encouraging voters to exercise their franchise without any fear or intimidation.

The results of this election will be crucial in shaping Haryana’s political future, with all parties eyeing a significant share of the assembly seats. As the state waits for the verdict, PM Modi’s appeal for a record voter turnout underscores the importance of robust democratic participation in these pivotal elections.
