Piyush Goyal Pushes for Greater Intra-BRICS Trade
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for deeper trade integration among BRICS members, urging countries to open their markets, simplify regulations and improve the movement of goods as the expanded grouping strengthens its role in global commerce.
India an Important Pillar of Intra-BRICS Trade
Addressing the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi, Goyal said the grouping now accounts for roughly one-fourth of global trade, underlining its growing importance in the world economy.
He described India as an important pillar of intra-BRICS commerce and highlighted the country’s expanding manufacturing and export capabilities.
Engineering goods and electronics form some of the largest segments of India’s manufactured exports, while the country remains a major global supplier of medicines and pharmaceutical products.
Goyal Urges BRICS Nations to Open Markets
Goyal urged BRICS member states and partner countries to provide greater market access for Indian and other member-country products.
He called for regulatory procedures to be simplified and for customs and other clearance processes to become faster, arguing that easier movement of goods would help increase trade within the grouping.
The Commerce Minister also stressed the importance of reducing unnecessary trade barriers as global supply chains face greater uncertainty and fragmentation.
India Sees BRICS as Major Export Market
India views the expanded BRICS grouping as an increasingly important destination for its manufactured goods, pharmaceuticals and technology-driven products.
Goyal said India wanted to engage with BRICS economies as a trusted trading partner while expanding opportunities for businesses across the bloc.
The comments come ahead of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, where trade, investment, resilient supply chains, digital cooperation and wider economic integration are expected to feature prominently in discussions.
