Pakistan Claims It Shot Down 12 Indian Drones Amid Rising Tensions
Amid escalating tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s military has claimed that it intercepted and shot down 12 Indian drones over its airspace. According to official military sources in Islamabad, the drones were spotted over several urban regions including Lahore and Karachi, triggering a high alert across the country.
One drone reportedly struck near a sensitive military facility close to Walton Road in Lahore, causing injuries to four soldiers and damaging a section of the installation. The drones were identified as Harop loitering munitions, widely known for their precision-strike capabilities.
Operation Sindoor Triggers Drone Warfare Claims
These incidents come just a day after India carried out a series of missile strikes targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. India maintains that the operation was aimed solely at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and avoided targeting Pakistani military assets.
Pakistan, however, has characterized the strikes as a blatant act of aggression and now alleges continued airspace violations through unmanned aerial vehicles. The claim that military facilities were targeted is expected to fuel further diplomatic and military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
International Community Urges Caution
The drone incident adds to the growing list of flashpoints in an already volatile standoff. International actors including the United Nations, the United States, and European Union have expressed deep concern and called for restraint on both sides.
While India has not officially responded to Pakistan’s drone claims, observers note that drone warfare and surveillance are likely to play a key role in the evolving security dynamic. With civilian and military targets alike now under heightened threat, both countries remain on edge as the possibility of further escalation looms.
