Pakistan Airstrikes Kill 3 in Afghanistan
At least three people were killed and several others injured after Pakistani aircraft carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Paktika provinces on Monday, Afghan officials said. The attacks have renewed fears of another military escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan after months of strained relations.
Pakistan Airstrikes Hit Kunar and Paktika
Officials said an airstrike struck the Nurgal district of Kunar province at around 3 am, killing at least three people and damaging a building.
Two additional strikes were reported about an hour later in the Barmal district of Paktika province. The attacks reportedly hit an empty house and a former shop, causing property damage but no confirmed casualties.
Pakistan’s military had not immediately issued a detailed statement confirming the targets or objectives of the latest strikes.
Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions Rise Again
The attacks came two days after a deadly assault on a police compound in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban government of allowing Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants to operate from Afghan territory and carry out attacks inside Pakistan.
Kabul rejects the allegation and maintains that it does not permit Afghan territory to be used against neighbouring countries.
Taliban Warns Pakistan Against Further Strikes
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid had warned Pakistan against carrying out military operations inside Afghanistan, saying Kabul would respond if Afghan territory was attacked.
Despite the warning, Afghan authorities have also indicated that they remain open to dialogue, intelligence-sharing and possible third-party mediation to address security concerns.
The latest airstrikes threaten to reverse a period of relative calm following serious Pakistan-Afghanistan clashes earlier in 2026.
