Omar Abdullah Urges Jammu Residents to Stay Indoors Amid Airstrikes
As Pakistani airstrikes rattled civilian and military zones across Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah issued a heartfelt public appeal urging residents to remain indoors and avoid panic. The appeal was made in response to heightened hostilities along the border and increased risk to public safety.
“It’s my earnest appeal to everyone in & around Jammu please stay off the streets, stay at home or at the nearest place you can comfortably stay at for the next few hours. Ignore rumours, don’t spread unsubstantiated or unverified stories & we will get through this together,” the Chief Minister stated.
Omar Abdullah Calls for Calm Amid Air Threat
The statement came shortly after a fresh wave of Pakistani drones and missiles were intercepted by Indian forces over Jammu, Samba, and Pathankot sectors. The airstrikes, though mostly repelled by Indian defence systems, have created significant fear among residents in the affected regions. Several areas had earlier experienced blackouts and disruption due to precautionary security measures.
Abdullah’s direct outreach to citizens is being seen as a critical stabilising step at a time when misinformation and panic can exacerbate already tense conditions. His message not only urges restraint but also emphasizes the need for communal solidarity and trust in the armed forces’ capabilities.
Security Tightened in Jammu Region
Following the attack attempts, the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have intensified airspace surveillance, reinforced deployment across sensitive locations, and issued red alerts in several areas. Medical teams and emergency services have been put on standby as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, Operation Sindoor—the Indian military’s strategic campaign targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan—continues with momentum, as national security agencies warn of further retaliation attempts from across the border.
As the situation evolves rapidly, Abdullah’s appeal underscores the importance of maintaining public discipline and calm. With Indian defence systems holding firm and intercepting hostile threats, civilian cooperation remains a vital part of national resilience during this critical hour.
