Nirav Modi Aide Sandeep Mistry Arrested
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Sandeep Mistry, an alleged associate of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, after he was deported from the United Arab Emirates in connection with the multi-crore Punjab National Bank fraud case.
Sandeep Mistry Arrested After UAE Deportation
Mistry was taken into custody upon his arrival in Mumbai and produced before a special court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
He had been absconding since criminal proceedings were initiated against him in 2018. An Interpol Red Notice was issued against Mistry in July 2026, following which he was arrested in the UAE and subsequently deported to India.
Both the CBI and Enforcement Directorate have previously named him in chargesheets linked to the PNB fraud investigation.
CBI Links Mistry to Nirav Modi Network
Investigators allege that Mistry played an active role in the network associated with Nirav Modi and his companies.
The CBI has accused him of coordinating with individuals shown as directors of dummy companies based in Dubai and Hong Kong. He allegedly acted as an intermediary in communications and meetings involving these entities.
Authorities have also alleged that the companies were used as part of fraudulent international trade transactions connected to the wider PNB scam.
PNB Fraud Probe Continues Against Accused
The CBI case involving Nirav Modi concerns an alleged fraud of approximately ₹6,498 crore against Punjab National Bank through fraudulent banking instruments and transactions.
Nirav Modi remains in the United Kingdom, where India has been pursuing his extradition.
Mistry’s deportation and arrest mark another development in efforts by Indian agencies to bring overseas accused linked to the PNB fraud case back to the country for prosecution.
