Neha Bora Released, Abhijeet Dipke Arrested
All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was released from preventive detention early Saturday, October 17, 2026, while Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke faces proceedings before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court in Delhi. Both were detained on Friday ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march at Connaught Place.
Delhi Police Arrest Abhijeet Dipke Under BNSS Provisions
Delhi Police confirmed that Dipke was arrested under preventive provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), citing apprehensions of a breach of peace.
Authorities initiated proceedings under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS, which concern security for maintaining public peace and preventive arrests.
Dipke was scheduled to appear before the SEM court at Mandir Marg Police Station on Saturday.
Police had earlier issued notices concerning the proposed demonstration, citing restrictions on gatherings in central Delhi.
AISA President Neha Bora Released After Detention
Bora was released after completing formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, authorities confirmed.
Following her release, Bora questioned the police action and alleged that protesters had been denied timely access to legal assistance.
CJP representatives also claimed that Dipke’s family and lawyers were unable to establish contact with him for several hours following his detention.
These allegations have not been independently established.
Anti-CEC Protests Continue Over Electoral Roll Revision
The detentions followed demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CJP and other protest organisers have alleged irregularities in the voter revision exercise, while the Election Commission has rejected allegations of politically motivated deletions.
Delhi Police maintained a substantial security presence around Connaught Place during Friday’s demonstration.
The proceedings against Dipke remain ongoing, with his legal position dependent on further orders from the magistrate.
