Muzumdar Backs BCCI Over Asia Cup Trophy Refusal
India women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar has backed the BCCI’s decision not to accept the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, saying the team is united behind the board’s position after winning a record-extending eighth title.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final but declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Muzumdar said the decision had been taken by the BCCI and the Indian team fully supported it. He stressed that the players were satisfied with being declared champions and considered the tournament officially over.
The coach said there was no information yet on whether India would receive the trophy at a later stage.
Women Follow Men’s 2025 Asia Cup Precedent
The decision mirrors the position taken by India’s men’s team during the 2025 Asia Cup.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side also refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi following India-Pakistan tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
That trophy has still not been handed over to India, with the dispute over its presentation remaining unresolved.
India Turn Focus to Asian Games
Muzumdar said the absence of the physical trophy would not diminish India’s achievement after another dominant Asia Cup campaign.
He praised the players and support staff and said the team’s focus had already shifted towards the Asian Games beginning September 19 in Japan.
India will enter the event as defending champions, with the women’s team aiming to carry its Asia Cup-winning form into another major international competition.
