Modi Targets Congress Over Kerala CM Delay
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has criticised the Congress over the delay in naming Kerala’s next Chief Minister, saying the party was unable to form a government despite securing a clear majority in the Assembly election.
Modi Attacks Congress Over Kerala Government Formation
Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, Modi took a dig at the Congress leadership and said the party was struggling to settle its internal leadership dispute in Kerala. He said the situation showed the Congress style of governance, where internal fights often take priority over public issues.
His remarks came after the Congress-led United Democratic Front won the Kerala Assembly election but had not announced its Chief Ministerial choice several days after the results.
Kerala CM Suspense Continues After UDF Victory
The UDF secured 102 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, while the Left Democratic Front was reduced to 35 seats. The result marked a major political shift in Kerala and denied the LDF a third consecutive term.
However, the delay in naming the Chief Minister has kept the spotlight on the Congress high command. Senior leaders V D Satheesan, K C Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala are among the names being discussed for the post.
Congress Faces Questions Over Leadership Delay
Congress leaders have said the party has time to complete the formal process before the deadline for government formation. However, public lobbying by supporters of different leaders has added to speculation over factional differences.
The party leadership has reportedly stepped in to control open demonstrations and poster campaigns in support of individual contenders.
BJP Uses Kerala Delay To Target Congress
Modi also linked the Kerala delay to leadership disputes in other Congress-ruled states, arguing that the party often struggles to manage internal power equations. His comments have turned the Kerala CM selection process into a wider political attack on Congress governance.
